Exciting news late last week when the Battelle/Bio State Bioscience Industry Development Report announced that Rhode Island’s bioscience sector grew 44.3 percent from 2001 to 2010. Despite declines in other sectors during the recession, 277 local businesses, employing 4600– saw significant growth when compared to other states nationally. GPCC through the Innovation Providence Implementation Council (IPIC) and other economic development initiatives has been leading efforts for increasing Rhode Island’s profile as a strategic location advantage for bioscience industry growth.
