Storm Moving in Faster, RI EMA Encourages Early Release For Business

It looks the Nor’easter is coming early!

According to local officials, the storm is arriving approximately six hours ahead of schedule. A winter storm warning has been issued.

From all indications the snow, which has already begun to fall, will accumulate over the next few hours and cause a messy evening commute. Given the change in the storm’s arrival time, Rhode Island EMA officials are encouraging employers to make appropriate arrangements and activate early staggered release times for employees.

The storm is still expected to intensify overnight with the heaviest accumulation between 9:00 p.m. tonight and 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The steady snow is anticipated to end tomorrow morning with a total accumulation between 8 and 12 inches.

Again, “treacherous” travel conditions are expected for the area over the next 24 hours, especially during commute times. Residents are encouraged to use extreme caution if they are on the roadways and allow themselves extra time.
