Aid in State Unemployment Could Be Good News for RI

Providence Business News reported yesterday that President Obama is expected to seek aid for state unemployment insurance programs burdened by debt because of high rates of joblessness as part of his 2012 fiscal budget. The aid would be in the form of a delay in state tax increases and a suspension of interest payments on state borrowing. The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and our Federal Affairs Committee wrote to members of our Congressional delegation asking for relief for Rhode Island from an estimated $10 million interest payment that will be due to the Federal Government on September 30th.

This is good news fro the business community should President Obama include such fiscal relief in his proposed federal budget!
