Peanut Butter Jelly Lunch

The Chamber was pleased to participate in the “Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich Luncheon” to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Today (March 31, 2011) we joined Governor Lincoln Chafee, Senate President Teresa Paiva-Weed and Senate Minority Leader Dennis Algiere Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Food Bank and Joseph MarcAurele, President and Chairman of Washington Trust Bank in making our own peanut butter sandwiches to kickoff the PB Xpress. This regional food drive provides much needed peanut butter to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The idea of the luncheon was for attendees to “roll up their sleeves” and make sandwiches with the food supplies provided and make an online donation to the PB Xpress with the money you would have spent on buying a lunch. Donations can be made at

This is the 11th year that Washington Trust has conducted the PB Xpress campaign. Since its inception, over 89 tons of peanut butter – enough to make almost 3 million peanut butter sandwiches for families in need – has been collected. As part of this year’s campaign, people are being asked to bring a peanut butter sandwich to lunch on Friday, April 1st and donate the difference to the PB Xpress campaign.

Please help spread the word.
