Today is the Day to be Visible in Opposition to Sales Tax Expansion

The Chamber is urging its members to make every effort to attend a very important hearing taking place TODAY Wednesday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. Room 35 at the State House. The hearing will focus on the proposed $165 million expansion of Rhode Island’s sales tax. Your onsite presence is essential to send the message that the proposal will have a negative impact on job creation, consumer spending and the overall Rhode Island economy.

Over the past several weeks the Chamber has been compiling a virtual petition of those oppose to the measure, which we will present to the House Finance Committee today.

But we still need our membership to make every effort to attend this very important hearing and to let their colleagues, employees and contacts know about what is happening. Again, the hearing will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Room 35 of the Rhode Island State House.

Due to the large number of people expected to attend Wednesday’s hearing, a shuttle service has been set up with stops at Colony Ford located at 7 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick, the Providence Marriott Downtown, located at One Orms Street in Providence and the State House. Shuttle service is expected to begin at 9:00 a.m. and run throughout the day.

We are calling on you to be there, be visible and be forceful in opposing this $165 million tax hike on business and consumers.
