Chamber Joins Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI To Recognize RI’s Healthy Companies

Surrounded by business leaders from around the state, Chamber President Laurie White, in partnership with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island today honored 89 local businesses for their demonstrated commitment to their employees’ well-being with a Worksite Health Award.

“The adoption of worksite wellness initiatives remains resilient (despite the current economic climate), as statistics illustrate a significant return on investment for participating companies.”  This news, presented by keynote address speaker Kurt Rix, manager of Health Education, Training and Development at The Health and Wellness Institute, a subsidiary of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, was embraced by those business leaders who initiated and promoted their wellness programs.  Data presented by Rix also supported company benefits of “reduced absenteeism and a higher rate of ‘presenteeism’ by employees during the working hours; thus increasing productivity and boosting workplace morale.”

White lauded those Rhode Island companies and organizations, both small and large, that actively encourage employees to participate in healthy lifestyles and noted that “worksite wellness is no longer considered an employee “benefit,” but a smart way to do business.”

Awards were presented in four categories:  Exemplary, Superior, Outstanding and Achievement.
