GPCC Supports High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Appropriations

The GPCC joined other members of the Business Alliance for Northeast Mobility (a coalition of 40 leading business, planning and civic groups established to promote improved transportation links in the Northeast Mega Region), in urging support by the New England Congressional Delegation of $2.5 billion in Fiscal Year 2012 appropriations for the High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR).  Amtrak’s funding request of $2.2 billion is also promoted and supported by this coalition.

The HSIPR Program provides funding for vital rail projects that support job growth and creation.  It is estimated that every $1 billion invested in high-speed and intercity rail supports both short term jobs in construction and long term jobs in maintenance and operations.  Investments in our ability to move people and goods quickly, efficiently and safely is critical to the economic success of the Northeast.
