Betaspring entrepreneurs demo day yields investments

David Friedman, CEO of inhabi presents to investors at Betaspring’s 2011 Demo Day

Last night, GPCC attended the Betaspring Summer 2011 Demo Day at RICIE. Eleven companies presented their business concepts and plans to a sold-out audience of investors and community representatives. Among those presenting were Deb Salinger from Nest 4 Less, a relationship marketing platform for realtors and homeowners; Chris Kieran, CEO of ZOKO, a company that enables dinner groups to form, plan and grow dinner parties; David Friedman, CEO of inhabi, a computer program that matches landlords with pre-qualified renters; Phil Rogers, CEO of revenizer, the developer of easy marketing scorecards to help companies grow faster; Robert Sanchez, CEO of TouchBase, a mobile application that keeps teens and parents in touch over a private, mobile network, Bernard Huang, the creator of a speech-to-text for mobile professionals, integrated directly with CRM systems; and Jamal Motlagh, CEO of Fitted Fashion, a custom fit clothing platform delivered through digital tailoring technology.

Other presenters hoping to catch the imaginations of investors included Building Layer, an intuitive mapping and way finding solution for indoor spaces; Translate Abroad, a phone translation which recognizes Chinese characters using phone cameras and Study Egg, a smart phone application that allows students to learn on-the-go with short activities.  At a break in the program, it was announced that one of the presenters had already secured an investment!

Betaspring is a mentorship-driven, Providence-based startup accelerator program for technology and design entrepreneurs who are ready to build a product and launch a company with transformational products. Admission to Betaspring is highly competitive, as hundreds of companies apply each year. The companies receive $20,000 in seed funding, with 3 months of intensive top-notch mentoring, and the chance to pitch to angel investors and venture capitalists at the end of the program.

Congratulations and best of luck to all of the presenters!
