IPIC Seeks Diversity Inclusion Consultant

The Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Innovation Providence Implementation Council (IPIC), the RI Small Business Development Center, and the OIC of Rhode Island is looking for a consultant to develop a Diversity Inclusion Action Plan related to the GPCC’s Knowledge Economy Initiative.

Understanding the complexity and diverse demographics of the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island, the group has issued a Request For Proposals seeking a consultant to provide strategic ways to engage the minority community in long term Knowledge Economy activities.

Diversity Inclusion Proposal

The concept of developing a knowledge-based economy first began in 2007 as way to address Rhode Island’s growing economic challenges. The primary goal of the project is to unleash and commercialize the entrepreneurial spirit and talent in the region, boosting productivity, creating jobs and wealth, and increasing the tax base of Providence and the region.

The IPIC was created as the organization that would not only oversee this development, but serve as the connecting body between a team of civic, academic and business leaders. The IPIC’s work is guided by a Knowledge Economy Action Agenda.

Now the group is seeking a consultant to develop an action plan that will work alongside the IPIC Action Agenda. Specifically the Diversity Inclusion Action plan will include research on national, local and economic development and job creation best practices; a review of census data and other data sources to describe local workforce and minority business development activity; provide an inventory of existing minority businesses that have “knowledge economy” development potential; and develop a workforce development action plan for the emerging employment opportunities.

The project is expected to begin no later than July 30, 2012 with the final report due October 31, 2012.  Request For Proposals are due Friday, July 6, 2012 no later than 4:00 p.m.

For more information on the project, or the Knowledge Economy Action Agenda, contact Janet Raymond, SVP Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce at 401.521.5000 or by email at
